BASIC MOUNTAINEERING/SNOW SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES!

just join us for the backpacking trip or just for a day hike!
PLEASE BE AWARE: WE WILL BE CHALLENGED BY SNOW, HIGH WINDS AND EXTREME LOW TEMPS ( negative digits). This is not a beginners backpacking trip

6,010 feet high Mount Rogers is the Highest point in Virginia and one of the most beautiful places in the State. It is part of the Grayson Highland wilderness area which resemble more the Scottish highlands that the hilly US South.
We will be hiking from Elk Garden to the Thomas knot shelter on the Appalachian trail and coming back to our cars on the Virginia Highland Horse trail.For a total of 9 miles.
Be ready for some Winter adventure full of fun.
MEETING LOCATION:For We are meeting at 8AM at the Food Lion parking in Huntersville,exit 25 off I-77 North.

*Sleeping bag-30F or less
*Extra Water Bottle
* Eating Utensils, Cup, Spoon
*Stove and Windscreen
Ventilating Layer (avoid cotton)
* Long Underwear-bottoms and tops
*Mitten or Gloves
* Hat or Balaclava
* hiking shirts
* Parka, Shell
* Rain pants
* Boots (crampon compatible)
* Food-For a over night trip
*2- 32 oz Water bottles (Nalgene)
* Sunglasses (glacier style)
*Watch with alarm
* Sun or Rain Hat
* Sleeping bag liner
